This year the price was given to the Carpentry Department at Copenhagen Technical College.

The Finn Juhl Architecture prize is given annually to an individual who has made a special effort in the field of furniture design – especially chairs – as a designer, producer, writer or similar. The award was initiated in 2003 by Wilhelm Hansen Foundation.

The Taiwan craft is facing a comprehensive pioneered era. Dialogue with the world and nourishing each other are an important mission for the future.

This year marks the centenary birthday of Danish design master Finn Juhl. NTCRI draws on the experience of four hundred years development of craft industry of Danish furniture and relives the earnest attitude behind craft tradition, as well as the exploratory courage of seeking out the contemporary spirit by design.

Furthermore, it sees the masterpieces in the era of great changes still maintain the human spirit and value in craft works. From tradition to innovation, from craft to industry, and from memorial to pioneering, this exhibition will provide valuable inspiration for Taiwan’s future development path of the craft industry!

Finn Juhl’s house is representing Denmark.

The site lists a hundred landmark houses from the 20th century by location, together with background information on their creators and related news stories. Since furniture designer Finn Juhl’s home in 2008 became a part of Ordrupgaard architecture and design are also subjects one can expect to gain knowlege about at the museum.

2012 is the 100 year of the world famous furniture designer’s birth. Ordrupgaard celebrates the bithday with a lecture by the American architect Michael Sheridan.

Sheridan’s lecture goes beyond the usual stories and clichés and contributes with new knowledge about Finn Juhl and his work.

Lecturer Michael Sheridan is the owner of Sheridan Architects in New York and is recognized internationally as expert in Danish architecture and furniture design from the twentieth century. In 2006 he created the exhibition “Poul Kjaerholm – Furniture Architect” at Louisiana.

Sheridan’s written works include “Room 606 – The SAS House and the Work of Arne Jacobsen”

The exhibition filled with collections from world renowned chair collector Oda Noritsugu (1946- ) highlights works of Finn Juhl (1912-1989), a leading Danish designer who started Scandinavian modern furniture design, which has emerged as a much sought-after lifestyle trend in Korea.
